In 2023, Earth Warriors was engaged by the University of Portsmouth to:
To develop British and Indonesian ECEC pre-service teachers’ quality and capacity to teach and practise sustainability in educational settings: How can pre-service teachers become effective agents of change in the sustainability agenda?
To advance pre-service teachers’ capability in child-centred, participatory learning approaches by ensuring children’s voices are firmly in the lead in the production of a curriculum for climate education: What matters to children in their environments, how do they want to nurture them, and how can teachers best enable this?
To positively impact upon the quality of early years pedagogy, practice and teaching by developing tangible resources: What practices best enable the development of a more equal partnership between children and practitioners in the early years setting?
Earth Warriors developed and executed age-appropriate climate education for early years preservice teachers in the UK and Indonesia. This included consultation with a small number of teachers to gauge existing knowledge, attitudes and behaviours in relation to sustainability practices and producing training resources in collaboration with the researchers from the University Portsmouth UK.
